Who is itSMF?
itSMF is a global, independent, internationally recognized not-for-profit organisation dedicated to IT Service Management. The itSMF organisation is wholly owned and principally run by its members. It consists of a controlling and co-ordinating body, itSMF International and a rapidly growing number of national chapters - each with a large degree of autonomy but adhering to a common code of conduct.
The itSMF was started in the UK back in 1991 and the founding UK chapter has made a huge contribution over the years in establishing it as an international organisation, as well as supporting the development of ITIL and associated qualifications and certifications schemes.
The itSMF community is currently comprised of 42 national chapters. Each of these chapters essentially runs itself, albeit with a varying amount of guidance and support from the International body. Whilst there are variations in products and services across the chapters, the core principles remain the same and the offerings of each chapter drive towards a common end goal - excellence in ITSM.
What does itSMF do?
At a high level, itSMF International sets policies and provides direction to guide chapters in providing their own core services to their members. It is also now the face of the itSMF organisation internationally and has become a powerful body in both commercial and intellectual senses. It has recently negotiated agreements with both The Stationary Office for the resale and translation of the new version of ITIL and with the APM Group to support its qualifications scheme. itSMFI is also represented at a high level on international certification boards and has some influence on future directions in this area.
At the heart of each of itSMF's rapidly growing number of chapters is the desire to promote "best practice" in IT Service Management throughout the world. Through a variety of different mediums and delivery the itSMF aim to help their members to exchange views, network with like minded people at all levels of service management worldwide and to share experiences and strive towards continuous development in Service Management.
