Update on the ITIL® V3 Foundation and Foundation Bridge Syllabuses Review

We are now approaching the final stages of the Foundation Syllabus Review. Revised syllabuses for both the Foundation and Foundation Bridge qualifications have been distributed to Examination Institutes, together with the supporting change log and exam question weighting documentation. New Foundation Sample examination papers were delivered by the Foundation Examiner team to Examination Institutes on 19th January, and the Live Exams based on the new syllabus will be in place for live use commencing on 1st May 2009.

The Foundation review project team had targeted completion tentatively for 1st Quarter of 2009. The examiner teams have completed the required syllabus and examination changes, and the question database used by Examination Institutes to build examinations is currently undergoing testing.

Feedback from the Accredited Training community requesting additional preparation time for courseware changes as well as readiness for testing centres have been considered, and a final live launch date of May 1st was agreed by all ITIL Examination Institutes.

The additional time allocated should give:

  • Course providers more time to adjust their materials and training schedules, and
  • Examination Institutes more time to prepare and test the papers for distribution across the whole community including via Prometric and Vue.

While the review resulted in changes to duration and combination of learning units, the basic content remains the same. The level of difficulty of the foundation and foundation bridge exam remains unchanged. The weighting of exams questions to learning units is adjusted to align to the new syllabus learning unit duration.

Anyone wishing to study the details of the review, survey findings (zip - 5.29MB) and reports associated with this project (pdf) can find the information on this website; and we would like to thank all those involved in this review for their time and input. We would also like to encourage people to feedback to us with comments to assist with the continual improvement of all the ITIL examinations.
