MALC syllabus review progress update

The review of the ITIL Managing across the Lifecycle (MALC) qualification is under way, as part of APM Group's continual service improvement process. The opportunity was taken to conduct the MALC review alongside the assessment of impact of ITIL updates in order that any impact of ITIL updates on MALC can be taken into account within the project.

The formal review involves extensive consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, including Accredited Training Organisations (ATOs), trainers, Examination Institutes (EIs), students and their sponsors, users, the ITIL examination panel and itSMF International (itSMF I).

The review project is being driven by the Syllabus Advisory Board, which comprises representatives from the licensed EIs, the ITIL Examination Panel, a selection of ATOs and itSMF I, all of which have been nominated to the Board by their constituencies. The board has worked both within sub-groups and as a whole in order to develop an updated intent statement for MALC and a set of survey questionnaires.

The Syllabus Advisory Board has also reviewed and analysed the survey feedback and agreed and drafted the findings and recommendations. We would like to thank all of you who completed the survey. The survey was conducted in English, German and Japanese languages, and we received 450 responses covering all continents.

Maggie Kneller, Project Manager for the MALC review process, said: "The survey responses have been extremely constructive and helpful, and have given us a clear and consistent picture of the strengths and weaknesses of the current MALC syllabus and exam."

The survey findings and recommendations have now been approved by the Qualifications Board. Based on the feedback, recommendations were made for improvements and changes to the syllabus and other elements of the qualification.
