Since its launch in January 2009, the ITIL Managing across the Lifecycle (MALC) examination has been sat by over 2,200 students worldwide. As part of APM Group's continual service improvement process, the review process for the MALC qualification began in January 2011.
We are consulting extensively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Accredited Training Organisations (ATOs), trainers, Examination Institutes (EIs), students and their sponsors, users, the ITIL examination panel and itSMF International.
As part of this consultation, we created a number of surveys, which were available in English, German and Japanese, and were used to gather stakeholders' views:
| Survey Recipient | Target audience | Purpose |
| Students | Students who have taken the MALC exam, whether they passed or failed | To gain a qualitative assessment of the MALC qualification from students' points of view, particularly their perception of the MALC syllabus, course and exam, and to elicit any suggestions for improvement. |
| Students' Sponsors | The sponsors for the students working in the same organization as the students, who recommended and / or authorized payment for the students to take the course / exam | To gain a qualitative assessment of the MALC qualification from sponsors' points of view, particularly their perception of the MALC syllabus, course and exam, and to elicit any suggestions for improvement. |
| ATOs | All ATOs accredited to deliver MALC whether or not they have delivered the course (yet), and other ATOs involved in the ITIL scheme | To gain a qualitative assessment of the MALC qualification from ATOs' points of view, particularly their perception of the MALC syllabus and its relationship with the course and exam, and to elicit any suggestions for improvement. |
| Trainers | All trainers accredited to train MALC, whether or not they have delivered the course (yet) | To gain a qualitative assessment of the MALC qualification from trainers' points of view, particularly their perception of the MALC syllabus and its relationship with the course and exam, and to elicit any suggestions for improvement. |
The surveys were available in April 2011. These were online surveys with invitation to participate issued via individual EIs and the Accreditor.
The feedback gathered has now been reviewed and analysed by the Syllabus Advisory Board made up of representatives from the itSMF International, the Licensed EIs, the Examination Panel and a selection of ATOs, all of whom have been nominated to the Board by their constituencies. This board has considered all feedback and made recommendations for improvements and changes to the syllabus and other elements of the qualification.
