Routes to ITIL Expert using V3 certifications

The Version 3 (V3) qualifications scheme has been designed to offer candidates the flexibility to acquire qualifications from across the ITIL V3 Intermediate Level to gain a desired degree of ITIL knowledge to the required level of depth and detail.

For candidates who are entirely new to ITIL, or ITIL V3 certification, and have defined ITIL Expert as their certification goal, there are many possible certification paths open to them to reach this level.

Pre-defined routes to ITIL Expert

To provide candidates with some additional guidance on how to reach Expert level, the ITIL Examination Panel have defined a series of possible certification routes which meet the key requirements for Expert candidates, including the requirement for balanced modules (which cover the full V3 Service Lifecycle) and sufficient credits (22+).

Therefore, using any one of the possible examples (Options A - F) in the table below, a candidate who successfully completes all modules within the option, would be be eligible to apply for ITIL Expert:

Personalising Your V3 Route to ITIL Expert

In addition to the pre-defined routes above, candidates can also build personalised routes to ITIL Expert, which will allow them to build an individual portfolio of qualifications to meet their own personal educational and career-driven requirements.

Candidates looking to achieve ITIL Expert via this route should be aware of the ITIL Credit Administration policy in place relating to combinations of ITIL V3 modules which are not reccommended to be taken together, to ensure the balanced portfolio requirement is met.

The ITIL Credit Profiler

The Official Accreditor has developed the Credit Profiler to help candidates calculate the number of credits they have achieved towards their ITIL Expert Level certification.

The system has also been programmed with the details of the ITIL Credit Administration Policy pertaining to potential ITIL qualification conflicts and overlaps, and can therefore be used to plot balanced certification route to Expert.
