The ITIL Qualifications Board has approved the use of existing ITIL V1 and V2 certifications for prerequisite exemption and credit use within the V3 Qualifications Scheme.
There are various ways in which earlier ITIL certifications can be used within the V3 scheme.
Bridging options have been introduced to recognize existing investment in ITIL certification and eliminate the need for candidates to re-certify under the new scheme.
The Bridging options recognize the elements of ITIL V2 which continue forward in V3 and the certifications achieved prior to the release of the V3 scheme.
Bridging options are currently available at all three V2 levels - Foundation, Practitioner and Service Manager - and all of the options can help candidates reach ITIL Expert Level. For more detailed information on the various bridging options, see the ITIL V3 Bridging Options area.
Candidates who hold a small number of earlier ITIL Practitioner certifications can supplement these with modules of V3 study to reach ITIL Expert Level.
Candidates are encouraged to take V3 qualifications which cover the ITIL disciplines NOT covered within their existing Practitioner certification/s, to enable them to build a balanced certification portfolio and earn the required number of credits to apply for Expert level.
This option is open to all candidates who hold ITIL V2 Practitioner certifications and candidates are free to select from all available V3 modules to build a route to Expert Level.
Candidates looking to achieve ITIL Expert via this route should be aware of the ITIL Credit Administration policy in place relating to modules and credits which can and cannot be used together for Expert applications.
Detailed information on these potential conflicts can be found in the ITIL Credit Administration Policy area.
The Official Accreditor has developed the Credit Profiler to help candidates calculate the number of credits they have achieved towards their ITIL Expert Level certification.
The system has also been programmed with the details of the ITIL Credit Administration Policy pertaining to potential ITIL qualification conflicts and overlaps, and can therefore be used to plot balanced certification route to Expert.
Go to the Credit Profiler to plan your route to ITIL Expert Level.
