The ITIL Managing Across the Lifecycle Certificate (MALC) certification is one of the 10 ITIL Intermediate modules available under the V3 Qualifications Scheme. Click on the above link to download a copy of the full course syllabus.
This qualification is also the final, required module which a candidate must take prior to achieving ITIL V3 Expert Level certification.
When designing the ITIL V3 qualifications scheme with the Lifecycle and Capability modular scheme in mind, the ITIL V3 Examination panel created the ITIL Expert Level of certification; to recognize a candidates overall ITIL certification achievements within V3.
When defining the rules for ITIL V3 Expert Level, it became clear that the modular construct at V3 and the decision to recognize earlier ITIL and complementary certifications using the ITIL V3 Credit System, would lead to many different combinations of certification being submitted for ITIL Expert level.
It was therefore decided that a course and qualification above the Lifecycle and Capability streams would be needed to rationalize the ITIL knowledge gained through any combination of modules and provide the necessary cohesion to fully link all phases of the ITIL V3 Service Lifecycle together.
MALC was therefore created to fulfil this requirement, and ensure that all ITIL Experts achieve at least one uniform certification, testing at a consistent level. It was also felt that the MALC module could take also impart additional, beneficial knowledge and skills which would be of great value to individuals working within the practical Service Management environment.
In taking MALC following units of earlier ITIL certification which span the full ITIL Service Lifecycle, a successful ITIL Expert candidate will not only hold a well rounded knowledge of ITIL, but they will also gain skills competencies in the following areas:
This particular certification will be of interest to individuals:
The following entry criteria must be met by candidates who intend to take MALC:
The following are also strongly recommended criteria, but not mandatory:
The MALC examination test candidates in their ability to understand, apply, analyze and synthesise information relating to the ITIL and other business related practices covered by the module.
The examination includes 8 scenario based, gradient multiple choice questions, with four answer options which are graded according to their accuracy.
Each question is supported by a detailed scenario, which describes a specific Service Management or business related situation or problem. Based on the ITIL core guidance covered by the module and the specific detail within the scenario, candidates should attempt to select the most accurate response from the four presented, that best solves the problem posed.
Candidates who correctly identify the optimum response to the question will be awarded top marks (5); those who select either of the partially correct options will receive fewer marks (3 or 1) based on the degree of accuracy of the option, and those who select the incorrect or distracter option, which contains little or no accurate detail to solve the problem, will receive no marks (0).
The pass mark for this examination is 70% (28/40) and the exam duration is 90 minutes.
