The withdrawal dates for the removal of Version 2 publications and qualifications and Bridging qualifications from the market have been announced and began on 30 June 2010. Please see the OGC V2 Withdrawal announcement for more information.
Candidates who hold earlier ITIL qualifications can update their knowledge and qualification via a series of "bridging" courses. These bridging options recognize the elements of ITIL V2 which continue forward in V3 and the qualifications achieved prior to the release of the V3 scheme, and all courses and examinations cover the areas of the ITIL V3 Service Lifecycle which are new to V3, and those existing areas of V2 which have undergone significant change in V3.
Candidates who have achieved the V2 Foundation qualification can gain a V3 foundation level of knowledge and understanding, by attending an accredited (pdf) course and successfully completing the associated examination.
The V2-V3 Foundation Bridge examination consists of 20 multiple choice questions, where only one option can be correct and will be awarded a mark. The pass mark for this examination is 65% (13/20) and the exam duration is 30 minutes.
Please note that there is mandatory accredited course attendance for this examination.
The ITIL Foundation Bridge examination is available in a number of languages. For a full list please see the Examination Languages area.
Candidates who have achieved the V1 or V2 Service Manager qualification can gain ITIL® Expert Level by attending an accredited (pdf) course and successfully completing the associated examination.
Please note that there is mandatory accredited course attendance for this examination, and the credits earned through the Service Manager qualification can only be used in this bridging route.
The V3 Manager Bridge examination consists of 20 scenario-based, complex multiple choice questions, where only one option can be correct and will be awarded a mark. The pass mark for this examination is 80% (16/20) and the exam duration is 90 minutes.
The ITIL Manager Bridge Exam is available in a number of languages. For a full list , please see the Examination Languages area.
Following withdrawal of the ITIL V3 Manager Bridge certificate on 30 June 2011 the bridging option available to holders of the ITIL V1 or V2 Service Manager certificate will change and will require V1 or V2 Service Manager holders to undertake V3 modules to enter the V3 scheme and/or reach ITIL Expert Level.
Service Manager Certificate holders who would like to take any ITIL V3 intermediate modules will be required to take the ITIL V3 Foundation certificate.
In order to reach ITIL Expert Level holders of the Service Manager certificate must successfully complete the following certifications:
Service Strategy OR Continual Service Improvement
Managing Across The Lifecycle (MALC)
This Bridging route will only be available to holders of the full ITIL V1 or V2 Service Managers Certification (both Service support and Service Delivery components). Individuals who choose to follow this route to ITIL Expert Level should note that the credit system does not apply to this particular bridging option.
ITIL V2 Practitioner qualifications are also recognized under the V3 scheme and depending on whether an individual holds a single topic qualification or a clustered qualification, the credits they achieve will vary.
For candidates who are interested in perusing ITIL Expert Level, V2 Practitioner certificate holders can enter the V3 Service Lifecycle or Capability stream to further enhance their learning, as long as the V2-V3 Foundation bridge course and exam have been completed. See the Routes to Expert using earlier ITIL qualifications area for more information.
Alternatively, those who possess a minimum of 12 credits from V2 qualifications (Practitioner and Foundation) can take the following accredited courses and associated examinations to achieve ITIL Expert:
