Foundation in ITSM according to ISO/IEC20000 awarded Complementary Status in the ITIL V3 Qualification Scheme

8th November 2009, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK….. The APM Group, which is responsible for the ITIL Qualification Scheme, has announced that the Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management according to ISO/IEC 20000 has been granted 'Complementary Qualification' Status within the ITIL V3 program.

EXIN and TÜV SÜD Akademie are delighted that the Foundation certificate from their qualification program in IT Service Management is granted this status. This will allow candidates who wish to take or who have already obtained the Foundation in ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000, to gain 1 credit for this certificate within the V3 Scheme, which can contribute towards their ITIL V3 Expert certification.

The Complementary Qualifications Scheme is an initiative run by The APM Group in association with itSMF International and its International Qualifications and Certifications Committee (IQC). The scheme allows all Licensed Exam Institutes to submit certifications for assessment by a panel of experts at the IQC for their relevance and the supplementary content they offer to the existing V3 portfolio of examinations and certifications.

The successful outcome of this assessment will be the recognition of these certifications as 'Complementary Qualifications' and the awarding of credits within the scheme. The Foundation certificate in IT Service Management according to ISO/IEC 20000 qualification was jointly developed and is offered by both EXIN and TÜV SÜD Akademie as part of a broad portfolio of IT Service Management and Quality Management certifications.

The ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000 Foundation certificate demonstrates a student's understanding of the core principles, processes and practices of a quality approach to IT Service Management based on the international standard for IT service provision. As a complementary qualification, the Foundation certificate of the ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000 Qualification Program is especially interesting because of its focus on the role of people and their activities in achieving quality of IT services and processes.

Richard Pharro, CEO, The APM Group said, "The addition of the ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000 qualification as a complementary qualification in the ITIL V3 Scheme adds a great deal of value to the scheme because we can recognise the skills and competencies of the quality approach to service management. I am sure candidates will appreciate that their existing qualification can now go towards the ITIL Expert level, and those who are thinking about taking the qualification have the added bonus of earning ITIL V3 credits."
