Use of ITIL Intellectual Property

Examination Institutes

Examination Intitutes are organisations approved and licensed by the APM Group to offer accreditation and examination services to Accredited Training Organisations.  Only Accredited Examination Institutes can use the ITIL "Accredited Examination Institute" mark as shown below:

Examination Institutes are not permitted to use any other Cabinet Office or APM Group intellectual property without permission.

Accredited Training Organisations

Accredited Training Organisations are organisations approved by Examination Institutes and licensed by the APM Group to deliver ITIL training and examination services to candidates. There are separate accreditation marks for each of the ITIL Examination Institutes, as displayed below:

Only training providers accredited by an ITIL Examination Institute are permitted to use the respective ITIL Accreditation mark.

Licensed Affiliate

Licensed Affiliates are organisations that work with Accredited Training Organisations to deliver ITIL Training in particular regions or markets and are licensed by the APM Group.  Licensed ITIL Affiliates can be identified by the ITIL "Licensed Affiliate" mark as shown below which can only be used by Licensed ITIL Affiliates:

Licensed Affiliates are not permitted to use any other Cabinet Office or APM Group intellectual property.

Licensed Operational Hub

Licensed Operational Hubs are organisations that work with Examination Institutes to support Accredited Training Organisations and examination candidates in a particular region and are licensed by the APM Group. Licensed Operational Hubs can be identified by the ITIL "Operational Hub" mark as shown below which can only be used by Licensed Operational Hubs:

Licensed Operational Hubs are not permitted to use any other Cabinet Office or APM Group intellectual property.

Approved Examination Organisation

Approved Examination Organisations are organisations approved by Examination Institutes and licensed by the APM Group to offer examination only services to examination candidates.  Approved Examination Organisations can use the ITIL "Approved Examination Organisation" mark as shown below:

Approved Examination Organisations are not permitted to use any other Cabinet Office or APM Group intellectual property.

Licensing of ITIL Intellectual Property

The content of the Cabinet Office core ITIL publications as published by TSO is protected by Crown copyright, and may only be used under licence from the Cabinet Office. Similarly the trade marks associated with ITIL are owned by the Cabinet Office and a licence is required to re-use them.

ITIL Accredited Training Organisations are licensed to use their respective ITIL Accreditation mark and official ITIL content in accredited training courses and marketing activities relating directly to their accredited offerings. Accredited organisations wishing to use Cabinet Office intellectual property for any other purpose must apply to APM Group for a Trade Mark (and Copyright) Licence.

Unaccredited organisations and individuals must apply to APM Group for a Trade Mark (and Copyright) Licence if they wish to use the ITIL trade mark (word mark) or Crown copyright from official ITIL publications.
