The ITIL Accreditation Scheme

The APM Group Limited as the Official Accreditor are authorized to assess and licence Examination Institutes (EIs) to administer ITIL qualification and accreditation activities.

A number of organisations have become licensed to offer ITIL Accreditations and Certification services to training organisations and individuals under the current scheme.  Please see the Examination Institutes Listing for further details.

Examination Institute Accreditation

All organisations approved by APM Group as EIs will be audited by independent auditors appointed by APM Group in accordance with the principles of international best practice standards. If the systems used by the applicant organizations are found to be in line with these guidelines, they will be granted permission to operate under the ITIL scheme and will also be offered a place on the Qualifications Board.

Under the contracts signed with APM Group, EIs are allowed to undertake the following activities -

  • Approve training organizations through the standards and mechanisms audited and agreed by APM Group
  • Administer examinations via those organisations they have approved using the standards and mechanisms agreed by APM Group.

Under the contracts signed with APM Group, EIs are not permitted to undertake any of the following activities -

  • Amend approved ITIL syllabuses
  • Develop their own ITIL examinations
  • Develop products which may be perceived as competition to those within the ITIL scheme
  • Offer training or consulting in ITIL in competition with those organisations they approve to do this
  • Make any amendments to the pass mark agreed by the qualification board
  • Issue trademark licences to their approved organisations directly
  • Outsource the running of their ITIL activities to any third party other than authorised examination agents, as agreed with the Accreditor.

Any Examination Institute can operate internationally.
