AXELOS (The Accreditor) assess and licence Examination Institutes (EIs) to administer ITIL accreditation and examination activities.
A number of organizations have become licensed to offer ITIL Accreditation and Examination services to training organizations and individuals under the current scheme. Please see the Examination Institutes for further details.

The nine organizations approved by AXELOS as Examination Institutes will be audited by independent auditors appointed by AXELOS in accordance with the principles of international best practice standards. If the systems used by the applicant organizations are found to be in line with these guidelines, they will be granted a licence to operate under the ITIL scheme.

Any Examination Institute can operate internationally.

There are nine Examination Institutes approved and licensed by AXELOS to offer accreditation and examination services to Accredited Training Organizations. Only the nine Accredited Examination Institutes can use the ITIL "Accredited Examination Institute" mark as shown below:
Examination Institutes are not permitted to use any other AXELOS intellectual property without permission.
Accredited Training Organizations are organizations approved by Examination Institutes and licensed by AXELOS to deliver ITIL training and examination services to candidates. There are separate accreditation marks for each of the ITIL Examination Institutes, as displayed below:
Only training providers accredited by an ITIL Examination Institute are permitted to use the respective ITIL Accreditation mark.
Licensed Affiliates are organizations that work with Accredited Training Organizations to deliver ITIL Training in particular regions or markets and are licensed by AXELOS. Licensed ITIL Affiliates can be identified by the ITIL "Licensed Affiliate" mark as shown below which can only be used by Licensed ITIL Affiliates:
Licensed Affiliates are not permitted to use any other AXELOS intellectual property.
Licensed Operational Hubs are organizations that work with Examination Institutes to support Accredited Training Organizations and examination candidates in a particular region and are licensed by AXELOS. Licensed Operational Hubs can be identified by the ITIL "Operational Hub" mark as shown below which can only be used by Licensed Operational Hubs:
Licensed Operational Hubs are not permitted to use any other AXELOS intellectual property.
Approved Examination Organizations are organizations approved by Examination Institutes and licensed by AXELOS to offer examination only services to examination candidates. Approved Examination Organizations can use the ITIL "Approved Examination Organization" mark as shown below:
Approved Examination Organizations are not permitted to use any other AXELOS intellectual property.
The content of the core ITIL publications as published by TSO is protected by copyright, and may only be used under licence from AXELOS Limited. Similarly the trade marks associated with ITIL are owned by AXELOS Limited and a licence is required to re-use them.
ITIL Accredited Training Organizations are licensed to use their respective ITIL Accreditation mark and official ITIL content in accredited training courses and marketing activities relating directly to their accredited offerings. Accredited organizations wishing to use AXELOS intellectual property for any other purpose must apply to AXELOS at [email protected] for a Trade Mark (and Copyright) Licence.
Unaccredited organizations and individuals must apply to AXELOS for a Trade Mark (and Copyright) Licence if they wish to use the ITIL trade mark (word mark) or copyright from official ITIL publications.
